Xi'an Xian'yang Airport Terminal 5 Guides

Opened on February 20, 2025, Xi'an Xian'yang International Airport(XIY) Terminal 5 is located 8km northeast of T2/T3, 34km north west of downtown xian, 65km west of Terracotta Warriors. With a total construction area of 705,500 square meters, it is bigger than T2 and T3 combined. Its design is inspired by the grand architecture of the Tang Dynasty. It has the world’s first archaeological museum inside an airport.

The maximum walking distance from the central hall to the farthest boarding gate is no more than 600 meters, taking less than 8 minutes. It supports facial-recognition paperless security check. Its advanced baggage system can deliver luggage in as fast as 5 minutes and 18 seconds.

Terminal 5 serves all the international flights and some domestic flights. Domestic airlines are included China Southern Airlines CZ, Shanghai Airlines FM, China Eastern Airlines MU, China United Airline KN, Sichuan Airlines 3U, Xiamen Airline MF and Spring Airlines 9C. And International airlines are included Finnair, Qantas Airways, United Airlines-UA, Japan Airlines, Delta AirLines-DL, Russian Airlines-SU, Air France, etc.

Terminal 5 has 4 main floors.

3rd Floor (L3): Check-in hall and International Departure.

All international / HK / Macau / Taiwan flights are processed here. Most domestic carriers (MU, FM, KN, 9C, CZ, MF, 3U etc.) operate check-in on this floor. Passengers drop luggage and go through security for international flights on this level.

2nd Floor (L2): Mixed domestic departure & domestic arrival level.

It serves quick domestic departure and domestic arriving passengers. Some airline VIP lounges are located after security on this floor.

1st Floor (L1): Arrival level and baggage claim hall.

Domestic and international passengers collect checked luggage here. The Take a Nap sleeping pods for transit passengers are on this floor. Shops, restrooms and information desks can also be found.

B1 (Basement 1): Reserved space for baggage claim of future satellite concourse, not in current use.

Ground Transportation Centre

The GTC (Ground Transportation Centre) is next to Terminal 5, connecting Metro Line 14, intercity high-speed trains and long-distance buses. Metro Line 14 connects T5 and T2/T3 directly with just one station.

From T5 Arrival Level to T5 Metro Station

Walk east following the **Metro / Subway** signs into the GTC (Ground Transportation Centre).

Distance: around 140 meters.

Walking time: approximately 5 minutes

Taxi pick-up area is at Gate 5 on level B1.

How to get to T2/T3 from T5

There are 2 ways from T5 to T2/T3

A. Take free shuttle buses run between T5 and T2 / T3 terminals.

Boarding point: Outside Gate 512 of T5; Gate 316 of T3; Gate 213 of T2

The airport Rainbow free shuttle buses run 24/7 between Terminal 5, T2 and T3.

Fare: Free of charge

B: Metro line 14

Timetable:

Airport(T5) → Airport West (T2/T3): First train 06:29, Last train 23:22

Airport(T5) → Heshao: First train 06:04, Last train 22:24

Fare: Free only for passengers transferring between terminals. You need to present flight documents to metro staff at ticket office for free service. For journeys heading into Xi’an city, fares are calculated by distance, with a minimum fare of CNY 2.

How to get to Xian City Center from T5

Option A: Metro (Recommended for budget travellers)

Take Metro Line 14 from Airport (T5) Station to Xi’an North Railway Station, then transfer to Metro Line 2 for Bell Tower, the heart of downtown Xi’an.

- Travel time: 60–70 minutes (including transfer walking)

- Fare: CNY 8–10 / person

Metro Line 14: Airport (T5) Station to Xi’an North Railway Station

- First train: 06:04

- Last train: 22:24

Metro Line 2: Xi’an North Railway Station to City Center (Bell Tower / Changninggong direction)

- First train: 06:00

- Last train: 23:55

- Advantage: Not affected by traffic jams.

Option B: Airport Shuttle Bus

Direct airport bus from T5 to the Bell Tower route.

- Travel time: 70–90 minutes

- Fare: CNY 25 / person**

- Feature: Fixed stops in downtown area, suitable for travellers with large luggage.

Option C: Taxi

Official taxi or Didi rideshare service at T5 Ground Transportation Centre.

- Travel time: 40–60 minutes, may extend to 70 minutes during rush hour.

- Fare: CNY 100–150 (toll fee included, price fluctuates with traffic).

- Feature: Direct drop-off at your destination. Best for groups or heavy luggage.

Food & Retail at T5

Food & restaurants

You can taste authentic local Shaanxi food: roujiamo, biangbiang noodles and liangpi.

Western fast food: McDonald’s (two shops airside near Gate127 & Gate177, 10:30–22:00), KFC(on Level 2, landside before security (Shop L2097 & L2098).

Other choices include Chinese restaurants, rice noodles, Hong Kong-style tea restaurants, coffee shops and fast food.

Most shops open from around 06:00 to 22:00.

Retail & Duty Free

- Souvenir shops: Terracotta Warrior gifts, local snacks and cultural handicrafts.

- Duty-free shops for international departing passengers (cosmetics, perfume, wine, tobacco).

- Convenience stores, fashion and gift stores are available
